FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT

Father, Son, and Spirit     Matt. 28:19
Father, Spirit, and Son     I Pet. 1:2
Son, Father, and Spirit     Hebrews 2:3-4; II Cor. 13:14
Son, Spirit, and Father     Hebrews 9:14
Spirit, Father, and Son     Jude 20-21
Spirit, Son, and Father     I Cor. 12:4-6

Three truths about God:

  1. There is only one God.
    Deut. 6:4; 4:39; Is. 43:10-11; 44:6,8,24; 45:5-6,18,21-22; 46:9; Mark 12:29; I Cor.8:4-6; James 2:19
  2. The Father is God; the Son is God; the Spirit is God.
    II Pet.1:17
    John 1:1; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8; II Pet. 1:1
    Acts 5:3-4; II Cor. 3:17-18; [I Cor. 2:11]
  3. The Father is not the Son nor the Spirit; the Son is not the Spirit.
    Matt. 3:16-17; 12:32; 13:41-43; John 6:38; 7:16; 14:28; 15:26; I Cor. 15:27-28
The United Pentecostals affirm only 1 and 2. (Modalistic)
The Jehovah's Witnesses affirm only 1 and 3. (Dynamic)
(These first two are called Monarchians or Unitarians.)
The Mormons affirm only 2 and 3. (Tritheistic)
To affirm all three is called Trinitarianism, but the word Trinity is not found in the Bible.

Analogy:

The sun is ball of fire, light, and heat.
There is only one sun.
We call the ball of fire the sun. ("The earth circles the sun.")
We call the light the sun. ("The sun is coming in the window.")
We call the heat the sun. ("The sun sure is hot today.")
There must be all three to have the sun as we know it.
The ball of fire is not the light nor the heat.
The light is not the heat.
The light and heat proceed from the ball of fire.
